Man gets five years jail for raping teen on trampoline

A ROCKHAMPTON man has been sentenced to five years jail for raping a 14-year-old girl on a trampoline at his home in 2008.

The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found guilty of the charge by a jury in the Rockhampton District Court in March.

The court heard the man was friends with the girl's father, who died from cancer the year before.

Crown prosecutor Russell Hood said the girl and a friend were at the man's North Rockhampton home for a sleepover.

It was heard the man gave the girl alcohol and cannabis, before raping her on a trampoline while his partner and children slept upstairs.

The man was able-bodied at the time, but is now a paraplegic due to a gunshot wound.

Judge Douglas McGill set a parole eligibility date at June 6, 2015.
