Man charged with brutalising wife set free on bail

A MAN accused of attacking his wife at a Urangan resort on the weekend has been released on bail ahead of his next court appearance.

Bernard Glen Dearlove, 55, appeared before Hervey Bay Magistrates Court yesterday facing one charge of assaults occasioning bodily harm.

Police alleged they were called to a resort on Boat Harbour Dr about 7.45pm on Sunday, where they found a 63-year-old Rothwell woman with severe facial injuries and multiple bruises and abrasions.

The woman was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital for treatment and Dearlove was taken into custody.

Dearlove was denied police bail on the weekend, but applied for bail during his court appearance.

Police prosecutor Donna Sperling objected to bail because of the seriousness of the charge.

But the court heard that Dearlove had no prior criminal history and bail was allowed.

The case was adjourned until November 5.
