Witness saw axe man get shot

MOMENTS before a Rockhampton man was shot in the neck he was seen slashing down the front door of a Bolsover Street home with an axe, a witness claims.

Blood was pumping out from the man’s neck after the shooting as nearby residents raced to his aid shortly after 7pm last night.

The man, 39, is currently in a critical condition at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Having issued a statement about the shooting early this morning, police are saying little more at this stage as they continue to interview witnesses.  They are still searching for the person who fired the bullet and didn’t answer questions about the cause of the attack.

They confirmed the injured man was known to occupants of the home where the shooting occurred.

The attack has left residents in the area shaken.

Michelle Rudolph said there was a huge commotion at the home before the gunshot.

“There was a lot of commotion between two fellas … a lot of yelling and screaming and then a shot was fired,” Michelle said.

“One fella has lent out through the window and shot the other man who fell to the ground.”

She said the injured man had used an axe to break down the front door.

“This is not an everyday sort of thing to happen in your street,” Michelle said.

“There are kids in the street.  I have three of my own and a niece a couple of houses down.

“You don’t expect this to happen, it’s a pretty quiet street.”
