A 21-year-old Coast man caught with more than 800 child porn images has told a court some of them dated back to when he was in Year 9 at school.

A KEMPSEY man is on trial over the part he allegedly played in last year's armed robbery of the Sawtell Hotel.

Leslie Dean Davis, 26, is accused of helping two others force their way into the pub while armed with a screwdriver, machete and a paver on January 28.

Police will allege the trio threatened staff before fleeing with a large amount of cash.

Later that night, two other men were arrested in the alleged getaway car and have since been dealt with separately.

Investigations by Strike Force Cheeryble later led police to an address at Albert St, Kempsey, where Mr Davis was arrested last April.

He has pleaded not guilty to robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

The trial began in the Coffs Harbour District Court on Wednesday and is expected to run for the rest of the week.
