Man tasered trying to crack pokies

A MAN was tasered and two fled from police when they were caught out allegedly cracking open six poker machines at a tavern in southeast Queensland.

The three men, armed with heavy tools, broke into the the Highfields Tavern, in Toowoomba's north, just after midnight Monday, police said.

They gained entry to the tavern's gaming room and began to hack into poker machines, Sergeant Jamie Deacon told AAP.

"They damaged six poker machines with a sledge hammer and/or crow bar," he said.

"They removed cash boxes from each machine."

The gang set off the alarm during the incident, and police, including the dog squad, arrived a short time later.

"On their arrival three offenders decamped in different directions," Srgt Deacon said.

"The dog was deployed and chased and bit one offender.

"He was tasered and didn't get away."

The 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with break and enter, possess implements of breaking, and obstruct police.

"He's a well known Toowoomba person," Srgt Deacon said.

The other two alleged offenders are still on the run.

The Criminal Investigation Branch is investigating.
