Mariners aim up against Barbarians

THE MARINERS will line up for what could be their toughest test so far tonight in the final round of Bundaberg rugby union spring competition.

The Fraser Coast side is looking forward to their clash with the winners of the Bundaberg winter competition, Wests Barbarians.

Mariners player Stephen Shine said the team was ready for the clash and was feeling confident with the return of one of their senior players set to make a big difference to the side.

Trent DeVere returned from an overseas trip to take his place in the unbeaten Mariners side and Shine said the talented forward would lead from the front and make plenty of space for the backs.

The Barbarians have a big forward pack and the Mariners will be mindful of that: “We’ll be expecting a big hit out,” Shine said.

The Mariners beat the Barbarians in a pre-season clash but won’t be taking anything for granted tonight.
