Mariners rest up ahead of finals

THE FRASER Coast Mariners have been making the most of their week off after finishing at the top of the table in the Bundaberg spring rugby union competition.

The side will be watching the match between the East Coast Buccaneers and Wests Barbarians with interest tonight – one of the two sides will play the Mariners in the second week of the finals series.

Mariners player Stephen Shine said the team was confident either way but, having just beaten the Barbarians, the team is hoping to meet them again as the game plan they devised to beat the Bundaberg side is still fresh in their minds.

“We’ll know what we’re up against.”

The Buccaneers have also been in impressive form in recent weeks.

The undefeated Mariners side have been training strongly and, while they haven’t decided on a team yet, Shine said a decision would be made at training next week.
