Maryborough High Students give back to community

As part of a new push for student leadership at Maryborough State High School, the school's newly initiated Fundraising Committee has decided to 'theme' their philanthropic skills.

Each term, the students and their Prefect Leadership select a theme and drive the considerable resources towards assisting the local community. For the first term, the school decided on the role and challenges of women in our community, with non-uniform days, lunchtime icypole drives and other donations to local and regional women's organisations as a focus. So far, students have raised close to $700 towards the Maryborough Womens Shelter, collected for the Burrum Buttrunners and Women on the Land, as well as raised awareness for inspirational speaker Julie Cross.

This is important to show students that, as part of a great community, it is important to give to your community to make it stronger and better for all.

Maryborough State High School will be reviewing its community program in the next week to look at the direction for the next school term.
