Injured couple won't talk to cops

TWO PEOPLE who were injured during a brawl on a Maryborough street have not made any formal complaints against their attackers.

The 16-year-old girl and 20-year-old man were taken by ambulance to Maryborough Hospital on Thursday after they were set upon by a group of people.

Sergeant Col Bastable said the pair was walking along Walker Street about 9.40am when they made a rude gesture to a woman driving past.

The 22-year-old driver allegedly stopped her car and called her boyfriend, who arrived in his car a short time later. Another carload of people also joined in the dispute.

The occupants of the cars allegedly got out of their vehicles and a punch-up ensued. One of the car's occupants allegedly pulled an iron bar out of a vehicle and struck the teenage girl across the back with it.

The injured man was left with hand injuries and grazes to his knees, arm and face. The teenage girl was left with welt marks on her back.

Police know of several suspects between the ages of 16 and 42; no charges have been laid.
