18yo to face court after break-in

MARYBOROUGH police worked quickly on Saturday to nab an alleged thief accused of breaking into a bakery van.

An 18-year-old Maryborough man will face court this morning after being arrested and taken to the watch house on Saturday.

Police allege the man targeted two cars early in the morning, between about 6am and 7am, on Saturday.

One of the cars was a four-wheel drive parked on Kings Lane, behind a bakery.

The car belonged to a bakery employee.

The offender allegedly smashed a window to gain entry to the vehicle and then stole a mobile phone.

During the same timeframe, a bread van parked near a bakery on Alice Street was also broken into.

A window of the van was smashed and a mobile phone and cigarettes were stolen.

Police found the suspect, a Granville man, soon after the break-ins were reported.

In an unrelated incident, a car parked on Milton Street was broken into overnight on Saturday.

The offender gained entry to the vehicle but nothing was stolen.

Police are still investigating the incident.
