Maryborough Riding for Disabled get donation from prisoners
MARYBOROUGH prisoners are cleaning up their recyclable rubbish and donating money raised back into the community.
Riding for the Disabled Association Maryborough received $262.46 from the Maryborough Correctional Centre.
RDA Maryborough provides opportunities for anyone with a disability to enjoy safe, healthy stimulating, therapeutic, horse-related activities.
Correctional Trade instructor Ken Hatch said the donation to RDA Maryborough was the first of many.
"The prisoners' desire to give something back to the community saw them choose to support local charities and donate all monies raised to them," he said.
"With support and encouragement from correctional centre landscaping trade instructors, prisoners developed the recycling program which also allows them to make reparation to the community.
"The prisoners are keen to continue their involvement in supporting those in need by expanding their recycling efforts and continuing to donate funds to local charitable organisations."
Mr Hatch said the program aligned with the Department of Community Safety Greening Corrections initiative and promoted social responsibility among the prisoners.
"Management and staff are pleased that so many prisoners are involved."
