Massive solar installation is boost for club
OCEAN Shores Country Club can now boast the largest solar power installation in the Byron Shire thanks to the addition of hundreds of panels.
The club has had 300 solar panels installed, providing 75kw of solar to offset its electricity bill and carbon footprint.
The solar panels were installed by local company SAE Group.
Company engineer Chris Tanei said the panels were installed on tilt frames to maximise efficiency and were self-cleaning.
"There was a great deal of thought put into the design of the panel's placement," Mr Tanei said.
"The club could cut their current power bill by $30,000 per year through this solar installation."
In addition to the solar panels, Mr Tanei said the club invested a significant amount of money into its sustainability commitment by replacing old air-conditioning units and retrofitting with energy-efficient LED lights.
He said commercial solar uptake was on the increase as power bills rose.
"Commercial properties are ideal for solar because most of their power usage is through the day."
The Lismore Workers Club can claim the largest north coast solar installation, with a solar system providing 100kw of peak power.
