OPERA Australia principal violinist Adrian Keating is on holidays from performing about 250 shows a year in a pit at the Sydney Opera House.
But rather than relax, the music lover has spent his time teaching Hervey Bay children the joys of orchestral performance.
Mr Keating on Thursday hosted a strings workshop for some of Fraser Coast's budding musicians.
About 50 kids from state primary and high schools across Hervey Bay pumped tunes to thrill an audience at an afternoon concert at Kawungan State School Hall.
Songs included a rendition of Cold Play's 'Clocks' and an arrangement of Mamma Mia composed by Adrian himself.
"(The children) did very well in coming together and playing with people they hadn't met before," he said
"It's an osmotic process and they learnt to hear each other better."
Schools represented included Urangan and Hervey Bay State High Schools along with Pialba, Yarrilee, Torquay, Kawungan, Urangan Point and Sandy Strait State Schools.
Mr Keating said he was likely to travel to Bathurst and Orange in New South Wales to further help Australia's young regional string players.
Mr Keating will on Saturday conduct private master classes between 9am and noon at the Hervey Bay City Musicians Rehearsal Hall.
Those interested are invited to watch.
