Is a Masters hardware superstore coming to Hervey Bay?

HOME improvement giant Masters has been given preliminary approval to set up shop in Hervey Bay, with Fraser Coast councillor Daniel Sanderson describing the development as potentially being a massive win for the region.

If given final approval, the Masters store will be located on Main St in Pialba, near Hungry Jacks.

"I think it's the best possible use for the area," Cr Sanderson said.

Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce president Tim Powers said it was exciting that Masters was interested in moving into the area.

"I would say it's a great vote of confidence for the region," he said.

A representative from Masters confirmed the hardware business was interested in coming to the region and had been in ongoing talks with a developer.

While no formal agreement has yet been reached, the council's vote gave the green light to the development in-principle.

Fraser Coast councillor Chris Loft said if the development went ahead, the finer details of the project, including plans would need to be approved by the council.

Masters Home Improvement is Woolworths Ltd's home improvement and hardware store.
