Mayes confident Lions cubs can match the Suns

BRISBANE teenager Sam Mayes hasn't played in a losing game against the Gold Coast Suns, and doesn't plan on starting this weekend.

After "honourable" losses to Hawthorn and Geelong, Brisbane will go into the clash at Metricon Stadium as underdogs against a Suns outfit chock full of high draft picks who now have the physicality and experience to go with their talent.

The Lions played 16 players aged 25 or under in Sunday's 25-point loss to the Cats, while the Suns had 18 players 25 or under in their 48-point loss to the Dockers in Perth, with 10 of those being 21 or younger.

Mayes (pictured), who booted four goals in Sunday's 25-point loss to the Cats at the Gabba, said he was confident his young teammates would take the game up to the Suns.

"Because they're young, they're quick and come at you. They've got good pressure. We'll look to hit them pretty hard this weekend," he said.
