Mayor backs push to lobby federal candidates for funding
FRASER Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell has backed a push to lobby federal candidates for funding promises to get three key projects off the ground.
Fraser Coast Opportunities general manager David Spear announced in the Chronicle on Saturday he would be meeting with candidates to promote projects essential to the region's growth and development.
Following the report and announcement of the September 7 election date, Cr O'Connell has thrown his support behind the move.
He said the Avion - Fly In Fly Out, Aviation Industry and Employment Precinct, the Mary River Marine Industry and Employment Precinct and the Fraser Coast Sport and Recreation Event Precinct projects, were integral to the region's future.
"They are absolutely important," Cr O'Connell said.
"These have been well-researched and documented.
"We've got some pretty strong preliminary data that they will create jobs, not just in construction, but ongoing jobs going forward."
He said meetings with candidates would be organised in the coming weeks, now an election has been called.
