Mayor to decide on his future in the 'coming weeks'

GERARD O'Connell will decide within weeks whether he will stand for Mayor of the Fraser Coast again.

Cr O'Connell also said he had not made a decision on whether he would run in next March's Local Government Elections.

"I certainly realise I need to and I will," he said.

"I need to make that decision in the coming weeks."

Despite there being no challengers yet, Cr O'Connell refused to be drawn into speculation about who else would run.

"I've got the job until March - it's a job I love, I believe I could make a contribution that's why I put my hand up," he said.

"I will assess for my family's sake and for myself whether I'm in a position to commit and to ask the people if they will give me another time to do it."
