Mayor sacks Wide Bay Water board's chair and deputy chair

FRASER Coast Council has sacked the chair and deputy chair of Wide Bay Water's board of directors after they spoke out against the council's messy bid to takeover the corporation.

Former deputy chair Raymond 'Curly' Tatnell condemned the takeover at a public forum on Thursday night.

He said the council had been arrogant and bullheaded by continuing its attempt to bring WBW back under its control.

He also predicted he would be sacked for speaking out.

Mr Tatnell labelled the takeover bid dangerous to ratepayers and said it would lead to cost blowouts.

Mr Tatnell and chairman Danny Mattsson were both notified of their sacking by Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell on Friday.

Cr O'Connell said he would seek to meet with the remaining four board members next week.

He said the two board members were sacked because their position was contrary to the council, which is WBW's sole shareholder.

"We were just left in an untenable situation," he said.

A new chairman and deputy chairman are yet to be appointed.
