Mayor seeks bigger commitment to upgrade Bruce Hwy
FRASER Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell called on both State and Federal Governments to make a bigger commitment to upgrade the Bruce Hwy.
Cr O'Connell said he approached State Minister for Community Recovery David Crisafulli at a summit on Wednesday about the aftermath of the 2013 floods.
"He told us to keep lobbying, which we clearly will," he said.
Cr O'Connell said during major flood events, the highway could still cause isolation by cutting off trucks carrying food supplies, generators and other necessities.
"While the region may not be flooded, you can't get milk or bread," he said.
"It is the key arterial route."
Cr O'Connell said the council would put together a presentation in the next few weeks to give to the region's federal election candidates, stressing the need for an upgrade to the highway.
