Free entry to M'boro pool to celebrate December 8 reopening

FAMILIES can pencil in December 8 as the official opening of the Maryborough Aquatic Centre.

Just in time for summer, the pool will open its gates and welcome visitors to an exciting playground made almost exclusively of water.

There are fountains, a flowing water course, zero depth zones with spray jets and a separate pool for toddlers.

The aquatic centre also has a repaired 25m heated pool, an eight-lane 50m pool and a hydro-therapy and learn-to-swim pool.

Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said special opening day trading hours and free entry would be in place to celebrate the event.

"After more than a year the $6.5 million Maryborough Aquatic Centre is ready for action," Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell said.

"It will be open from 8am with the official opening at 10am on Saturday December 8.

"And to celebrate there will be free entry all day - 8am to 6pm."

Cr Darren Everard, who handles the sport, recreation, open space and events portfolio, said road closures would be in place around the venue to improve safety on opening day.
