McCullough perfect replacement for Cameron Smith

NRL: Queensland has a ready-made hooker when veteran skipper Cameron Smith decides to step down, says Bronco Darius Boyd.

Boyd, the Maroons fullback, touted Andrew McCullough as Smith's heir apparent after the Brisbane rake shone in their 32-8 win over the Roosters.

"I've known he is a great footballer for some time," Boyd said. "A rep jersey wouldn't look out of place for sure."

"He doesn't get enough credit. We are lucky to have him.

"It's inspiring. You don't have to look over your shoulder, you can trust him every time he runs out on the field."

McCullough, 27, showed his attacking nouse in the fifth minute with a try from a dummy-half run.

In the 57th minute, the No.9 stopped try-bound fullback Michael Gordon with an ankle tap, with the Roosters threatening to fight back from a 20-8 deficit.

"He must have been tired but ran back and made that play. Just incredible," Broncos coach Wayne Bennett said.
