Election candidate off committee

Mr Kruger told yesterday's council meeting in Maryborough that he was happy to come off the committee in favour of another councillor replacing him.

Barbara Hovard did.

Gerard O'Connell, who has been chairing the committee, said he believed Ms McNeven, Labor's candidate for Hinkler, also wanted to come off the committee.

That all worked out fine because the new Local Government Act rules only allow for two councillors and not three.

Mr O'Connell will continue to chair.

Meanwhile Hervey Bay accountant Bernard Whebell, who is also the president of the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce, resigned from the audit committee on August 6, citing work commitments.

FCRC CEO Andrew Brien will now advertise for expressions of interest to replace Mr Whebell.

The committee's role is to meet four times a year and oversee and advise the council on accountability and internal control.
