Media-shy Bulldogs should know we don’t bite

THE Canterbury Bulldogs were on the Sunshine Coast this week, but the club was quick to shut out the media.

With a bye this weekend, last year's losing NRL grand finalists set up at Palmer Coolum Resort for a three-day camp.

When the Daily learnt of their Coast sojourn, we contacted their media department but were denied access to the players.

Apparently, coach Des Hasler wanted to keep distractions to a minimum.

We're not sure what the big deal is. We're pretty affable fellows and we would have loved to have heard their thoughts.

Especially those of halfback Trent Hodkinson, who won the Q Cup with the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles in 2009 and has really got his career back on track this year.

We hear the Bulldogs could be back on the Coast in 2014 to play a pre-season trial. Watch this space.

Teen taking on the world

FOR most people, going overseas can be a thrilling and somewhat bewildering experience.

So spare a thought for young Chelsea Gubecka.

The 14-year-old has not only left Australian shores for the first time, but she's done it compete on one of international sport's biggest stages.

The Mountain Creek-Mooloolaba club swimmer will spend about a month in Spain, where she is with the Australian swim team to compete in the FINA World Championships.

"She's never been overseas before, so to get away from Mum and Dad is a big thing," her father, Serge, said. "But she skypes us every day and she's going really well."

Fancy seeing you here

SUNSHINE Coast Fire midfielder DJ Firth recently returned from a stint in the Victorian Premier League, where he ran in to a familiar face.

While in Melbourne he turned out with Hume City FC against former Fire captain Tyson Holmes, who has been plying his trade with South Melbourne.

For the record, Firth's Hume City got up 3-2.
