Meeting focuses on sustainability
MAYOR Gerard O'Connell has attended Queensland's first Council Regional Round Table meeting, designed to ensure local government is sustainable and prospers in the state.
Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the meeting of Queensland's councils and State Government representatives was a turning point that would lighten the load on rate payers throughout the state.
"The recommendations include supercharging land use across the state, getting value for money on construction and maintenance of assets and local government pooling resources to reduce costs for their communities."
Mr Crisafulli said councils would now vote on nine recommendations to improve on the way councils conduct their business. "We are confident within a few weeks we will have a clear way forward but already there is an overwhelming desire to improve the way we do business together," he said.
