A MAN is in hospital with serious injuries following a fiery crash at Curra, north of Gympie, on Wednesday night.

Police said the vehicle he was a passenger in left the Bruce Highway about 9pm, travelled though a culvert and crashed into a tree.

There were two occupants in the car, driver and passenger, who both managed to escape before the vehicle caught fire and was destroyed.

A 35-year-old man from Woodridge was taken to the Gympie Hospital with serious injuries, while a 49-year-old Kingston man received minor injuries.

The Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
