Men's comp strikes out

ON TUESDAY night the Hervey Bay Softball Association made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining games in the men’s competition due to a lack of players.

Instead the association is hoping to play a three-weekend tournament in conjunction with Bundaberg in February and March which, if Bundaberg agrees to be apart of it, will be called the Wide Bay Club Classic.

Next year the association will seriously discuss moving the men’s competition to a Saturday.

Although there are enough players signed up for three teams, the association has been struggling to field two teams in recent weeks, forcing them to make a decision on the rest of the season at Tuesday’s delegates’ meeting.

“We can’t do it if we don’t have the numbers,” association member Damien Maahs said.

The women’s competition and the under-16 competition will continue as normal.
