‘Monster’ rapist seen after six weeks on the run
A DANGEROUS convicted sex offender who fled into Victorian bushland with his passport has been seen interstate.
Fugitive Taskforce detectives appealed for help to find Christopher Empey, 46, who was spotted in the NSW South Coast last month.
Empey, who spent the past 16 years in jail after raping and bashing a colleague, has been on the run for six weeks and the public has been urged not to approach him.
Authorities first learned of his disappearance on November 23, after he failed to comply with his monitoring conditions.
His GPS tracker was later found dumped in Baddiginnie, sparking an extensive search near Mansfield.
Empey bought a yellow 2005 Suzuki DR650 motorbike (registration GD531) the week he went missing.
Police believed Empey used the off-road bike to flee through bushland with his passport.
Today police revealed the bike was privately sold to a buyer in Nowra, NSW in early December.
The buyer did not know Empey was on the run.
Police say they are unsure if he has since gained access to another vehicle.
New images of Empey have today been released in the hope someone might recognise him or know where he is.
CCTV images taken from a Nowra store show Empey unshaven and wearing the same clothes he absconded in.
Police suspect he may have also suffered some kind of injury.
Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who lives in the Nowra area, or visitors travelling to the region, who may have seen him.
In Empey's sentencing, a Supreme Court judge described his vicious attack in 2002 on a woman after a company award's night as "the acts of a monster".
After the rape, Empey walked off before returning to inflict more pain, stomping on his victim's head in the stairwell of a Southbank apartment building.
He was married with two children at the time.
The fresh appeal for public information comes as police also hunt a second registered sex offender.
Maurice Collie, 26, who uses aliases Reece Collie and Reece Nelson, is believed to be hiding in the Frankston area.
Police say he failed to tell them when he was released from custody and his new address.
He was last seen in the CBD on December 22 and contacted his family on Christmas Day.
He is about 180cm tall, with blue eyes, a thin build, short black hair with a goatee.
He has a number of tattoos on both forearms, a scorpion tattoo on his lower left leg, a heart and dagger on his upper right arm and an eagle on his back.
He is also known to frequent the Bendigo area.
Anyone who sights either man is urged to contact triple-0 immediately.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact triple-0 immediately or file a report with Crime Stoppers.
