More couriers to rush samples from M'boro hospital
COURIERS may have to rush between Maryborough Base Hospital and Hervey Bay Hospital six times a day once Maryborough's pathology unit closes its doors.
Wide Bay Health and Hospital Board chief executive Adrian Pennington said the processing of blood samples from both centres would be managed by the current staff at the Hervey Bay unit.
"Courier times for samples being transported to Hervey Bay Hospital are proposed to increase from four to six daily to ensure that samples collected are processed in a timely fashion," he said.
The State Government announced last month the pathology unit would close, cutting six positions.
An online petition protesting the closure of the unit had received more than 1150 signatures by yesterday afternoon.
Another petition has also been set up in the hospital foyer.
