More than $2000 in fines

A MARYBOROUGH teenager who has continually flouted the law by not wearing a bicycle helmet has fronted court again.

Christian John Olsen, 17, already had more than $2000 in unpaid fines for not wearing a bicycle helmet.

He was given another $400 fine by Magistrate Neil Lavaring in the Maryborough Magistrates Court.

The court was told the unemployed Maryborough youth had an extensive history of failing to wear a helmet and had made no effort to repay any of his fines.

Olsen told the magistrate he did own a helmet but he preferred to wear a cap.

“Why don’t you wear it – do you want to get your head knocked off?” Mr Lavaring asked.

“Fines don’t seem to be much of a deterrent.

“You’re coming close to actually spending time in jail.”
