Mother of murder accused goes into hiding

THE mother of a man charged with murder over a Murwillumbah stabbing this week has gone into hiding while police continue to compile what is expected to be an extensive brief of evidence.

James Alderton, 22, faced court briefly on Wednesday, accused of stabbing three people during an altercation at Knox Park on Tuesday - including 46-year-old father Charlie Larter who died on the way to hospital.

Alderton's mother Heidi Eitz, 38, says she fled after people threatened to kill her when she arrived home on Tuesday afternoon.

The Murwillumbah local said she picked up clothes from her home on Wednesday but had been instructed by police not to return unless escorted by officers.

"When I arrived home (at about 12.40pm on Tuesday) they were standing out the front of the house with bats and bottles and I was threatened myself," she said.
