Motorists told to avoid hwy

FRASER Coast motorists travelling south have been asked to avoid the Bruce Highway after a serious traffic crash just north of Gympie.

The highway has been closed in both directions and the forensic crash unit is at the scene.  

Police said initial information suggested three cars collided at about midday on the highway near Irvine Rd.

One person has been airlifted with suspected spinal injuries and two people have been taken to Gympie Hospital.

Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
