Mowers cut to the chase

RIDE-ON mowers were out in force in Tinana yesterday.

But this particular bunch did not cut a single blade of grass with their machines.

They were more interested in cutting up their rivals at speeds of up to 80kmh on a race track.

Twenty-four competitors from throughout south-east Queensland raced into action on their bladeless machines during a Maryborough Lawn Mower Racing Club meeting.

Visiting competitors won the honours in all three divisions on the day but Torbanlea’s Fred Francis ensured the visitors did not have it all their own way.

Francis, one of the 16-strong Maryborough club in action, won the all-in race event.

Maryborough Lawn Mower Racing Club president John Dodds, said it had been a fantastic day for the club.

“It was the biggest meeting we’ve had,” Dodds said.

“We had lots of spectators, plenty of great racing and no accidents.

“You could say that we had a ball.”
