MP questions choice to award boot camp tender to Hard Yakka

A LABOR MP has questioned the State Government's tender process which awarded Susan River's Operation Hard Yakka the contract to a state-run youth boot camp.

Mulgrave MP Curtis Pitt asked Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie in Parliament on Thursday to guarantee Hard Yakka was the top-ranked tenderer for the boot camp.

Mr Bleijie did not make the guarantee and instead spoke about the considerations taken to choose the camps.

"I can assure the Member for Mulgrave that there were two considerations that I took into account when dealing with these boot camps - one, that they have got a track record and they have the runs on the board in running boot camps in this state; and, secondly, that the community will be safe," he said.

Mr Pitt accused Mr Bleijie of dodging the question.

The Chronicle asked Mr Bleijie on Sunday if Hard Yakka was the top tenderer.

"Of the 12 organisations that lodged expressions of interest, Operation Hard Yakka was the best applicant with proven boot camp experience," he said.
