MP says he is not interested in cabinet

MEMBER for Maryborough Bruce Saunders has claimed he turned down a promotion before any was offered.

A state government cabinet reshuffle was triggered when Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk sacked embattled Police Minister Jo-Ann Miller last week.

Ms Palaszczuk announced the cabinet late yesterday afternoon, expanding the executive from 14 to 17.

But Mr Saunders said he made it clear to Deputy Premier Jackie Trad that he was not interested in a promotion to the cabinet or assistant ministry late last week.

"I was sounded out if I was interested,' he said.

The answer from Mr Saunders was a clear 'no'.

"My main concern at the moment is to get Maryborough going," Mr Saunders said.

Mr Saunders said he felt he was able to get more done for the community if he was outside of the cabinet.

He said he felt a cabinet position would mean too much time away from his constituents.

"I can't have a go at my ministers if I am a part of the executive," he said.

"I believe the Maryborough electorate is my number one priority."

Mr Saunders said he would continue to work with the new cabinet to get the best for Maryborough.
