'Mum dragged out of house, raped with knife to her throat'

A MAN has fronted court, accused of dragging a Sunshine Coast mother from her home and raping her at knifepoint in a shed, before threatening to rape her daughter and sister and kill her if she told anyone what happened.

Toby Michael Silvia faced the Maroochydore District Court yesterday, pleading not guilty to rape, deprivation of liberty and armed burglary.

The former fruit picker was 26 years old when he allegedly broke into the home of a woman he knew at Beerwah early one morning in August last year, armed with a knife.

The court heard the victim heard a noise and came out of her bedroom to see a man dressed in a hoodie, sunglasses and face covering who smelled like alcohol and cigarettes.

The man put his hand over the woman's mouth and held a knife to her neck as he forced her outside, into a shed and raped her, the jury was told.

She told police she had been too terrified to scream or run away.

The court heard Silvia then threatened to also rape the woman's daughter and sister, who were inside the home at the time, and made death threats to maintain the victim's silence.

The court was closed as the victim of the alleged rape delivered her testimony.

By the end of the trial the jury will have also heard from business owners, a forensic nurse and investigating police officers.

The trial continues today.
