Mum's 62,000 reasons to truck out west

ONE little question can make a huge difference in the lives of others.

And that's exactly what Rachael Eddy is going to do for drought-stricken western Queensland families with her Water for the West fundraiser.

She heard about just how bad the drought was - some towns may well run out of water if there is no rainfall before Christmas - and decided that she needed to do something to help.

So, she began asking a simple question - "Can you help?" - and the response blew her away. Tomorrow, with the help of C and K Transport, three trucks will transport more than 62,000 litres of water to a drop off point at Ballandean.

From there, the Tenterfield Rotary Club will begin the process of distributing the water to families who need it the most.

"It's bad enough that farmers are losing farms and income because they've got no water, it's really expensive to fill up the tanks at the moment, but now it's trickling into households and they can't even make a cup of coffee, there's no water in the tanks and no rain water."

Three trucks will travel to Ballandean tomorrow with 62,500 litres of water.

"The idea was to get enough water to fill a truck. Coming from a trucking family it only seemed fitting really. I have the contacts, why not utilise them?" the full-time stay at home mum and small business owner from Jimboomba said.

"I started out just wanting one truck and 20 IBC pods of water and now we've got three trucks and 60 pods full of water."

She said 37,000 litres was donated by a local business and the remaining 28,000 litres was purchased with money from various cash donations. On top of that, the trucks will also transport 150 10 litre bottles of water.

While this water run has already been organised and the water has already been collected, Rachael said she was planning another one for October.
