More Mustang! 2000 extra pony cars and updates coming soon
STILL waiting for the queue to die down before buying a Ford Mustang? Good news is 2000 extra Mustangs have been secured for Australia to satisfy demand, while Mustangs built from June will feature SYNC 3 connectivity featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
These 2017MY Mustangs will also be available in three new colours: Lightning Blue, Grabber Blue and White Platinum, but should only make a small dent in the enduring favourite, Race Red. There are no price rises for 2017MY cars - the EcoBoost models remaining at $45,990 and V8 GT $57,490 for starters.
Ford is riding high on a wave of Mustang positivity. The model is runaway Australian best seller in the sports car segment for 2016 so far, while this year we've bought more Mustangs than Falcons. Who would have believed that could happen five years ago?
The 2000 extra Mustangs will arrive here towards the end of 2016, but those built before June won't feature the desirable SYNC 3 technology, nor is there a simple plug-in upgrade to modernise the MY2016 pony cars.
Ford also reports the V8 GT models are, as predicted, finding more favour with Aussie buyers, but those opting for Convertibles are embracing the less-thirsty four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, with a 40% uptake here.
Ford sales are up 17.2% over last year so far, partly due to the Mustang's success; the company saying the sports car has surpassed 2016 sales predictions with 1500 more orders placed than expected.
