A 53-YEAR-old man who fell overboard from a motor cruiser has been found naked on Big Woody Island by Volunteer Marine Rescue Hervey Bay in the early hours of Monday morning.
VMR Hervey Bay commodore Kevin Heitmann said the man was wearing boxer shorts when he slipped and fell from the motor cruiser but he had to lose them because they were pulling him under.
"The current took him around the bottom and back up the eastern side of Big Woody," he said.
"He managed to get ashore and walked back to the western side."
Mr Heitmann said the man suffered cuts to his feet but they were not serious enough to need medical attention.
"He's just lucky that he came around the bottom - the tide took him around so he was able to get ashore," he said.
A Hervey Bay police spokeswoman said they were notified about 1.35am and the man was found near the south point on Big Woody Island about 3.35am.
Mr Heitmann said the three other people onboard the motor cruiser, which was about 14m long, had been looking for the man and eventually they heard him on the shore.
"We picked him up off the shore and took him back over to that boat," he said.
