Nerang man dies after motorbike crash in Surfers Paradise

A 34-YEAR-OLD Nerang man involved in a motorbike crash after police tried to intercept him has died overnight in the Gold Coast University Hospital.

The man had been rushed to the hospital in a critical condition following a motorcycle crash that occurred in Surfers Paradise on April 20.

Preliminary investigations indicate that around 10.30pm police attempted to intercept a motorcycle on Sunset Boulevard when it failed to stop and continued into Sunrise Boulevard.

Officers pulled their marked-vehicle over before searching for the motorcycle on foot.

A short time later, police located the motorcycle on a footpath at the end of the cul-de-sac before noticing the male rider in the canal.

The officers immediately retrieved the man from the water and commenced first aid.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
