New 4WD tours to start in January

THE STATE Government’s green light for tag-along tours on Fraser Island is being hailed as a welcome improvement to driving safety by the Fraser Coast 4X4 hire association president, Dave Robertson.

“But this transition from the current method of group hire to tag-along will require a price increase.

“These changes will mean a substantial challenge for industry operators so there will be increases in costs to both customers and operators.”

Operators had until January 1 to sign agreements with the government to be able to conduct tag-alongs; they can start the tours from January 31.

“Our operators will have until June 30 this year to start conducting tag-along tours,” Mr Robertson said.

“The key driving factor behind the introduction of this type of tour is and has always been safety and this is something that the industry should never lose sight of.”
