New grants to enhance volunteering in national parks

VOLUNTEER groups across Queensland will get the chance to be involved in caring for Queensland's national parks, with a new grants program opening on Thursday.

National Parks Minister Steve Dickson said the $500,000 Friends of Parks initiative was a way to enhance volunteering in Queensland's national parks.

"This Friends of Parks funding program will support existing and new projects run by not-for-profit community groups within our protected areas and national parks with one-off small grants of between $5000 and $25,000," he said.

Applications for the one-off grants close on June 28.
