New green at Burrum Heads Bowls Club

BURRUM Heads Bowls Club recently celebrated the official opening of the John and Sylvia Redman green.

Chairman Graeme welcomed Bruce Saunders, MP, Mayor Gerard O'Connell, and John and Sylvia.

A game of bowls was held in the morning before Mr Saunders unveiled the plaque, which was made by Paul Redman.

A second game of bowls followed the ceremony which included John and Sylvia rolling the first bowl.

It is three years since the members approved a second green be built when a grant became available.

Government policy had changed in that time and less money was available, but the club went ahead with the project and made up the shortfall.

The two greens have been used on many occasions since their installation in December.

It was agreed to name the green after John and Sylvia Redman in honour of their achievements, both on and off the green.

Jim Hickey's column did not appear due to a personal emergency, but it will be published when available.
