New-look Hervey Bay Seagulls ready to take on Wests
HERVEY Bay Seagulls will mark their blockbuster Anzac clash with the debut of their new playing jersey.
The Seagulls redesigned their jersey at the start of the season, moving from the traditional, South Sydney Rabbitoh-like red and green stripes to a predominantly red strip.
A-grade manager David Yarrow said the club was told they had to investigate an alternative strip as it clashed with Wests Panthers' jersey.
While the Seagulls could simply have reverted to last year's look, they merely "reversed" the new jersey - with great results.
"I think it looks better than the normal (jersey)," captain Clinton Horne said.
Yarrow said it did not take long to settle on the predominantly white strip, which they last wore in 2011.
"The white was pretty much the instant, just a reversal of what we were," Yarrow said.
"Probably the best option, it looks good. We'll have to use these for the three matches with Wests this year. If the boys are happy with them we can use it other times."
The Seagulls' match against Wests will serve as a curtain-raiser for the most-anticipated game of rugby league in Hervey Bay in recent time.
Sunshine Coast Falcons agreed to bring their Intrust Super Cup game against defending premiers and national champions Ipswich Jets to Hervey Bay, and tickets have sold like hotcakes.
They are available at various outlets in Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Bundaberg, as the Seagulls host more than eight hours of rugby league and pay tribute to our Anzacs.
"It's good, not just for football but the community," Horne said.
"It'll bring a lot of players who play great footy, and the juniors get to see that level of football on their home field.
"Hopefully we can pack Seagulls out, get a good game and we pick up a win over Wests."
