Hydraulic consultant is third WBW chair this year
HERVEY Bay's Cliff Searle has been appointed as the new chairman of the Wide Bay Water board.
Mr Searle, a hydraulic consultant, is the third person to take the position this year.
Randall McLellan, Richard Krause and Mr Searle were announced as new directors to the board only last week, after three previous directors were either sacked or resigned in just more than a month.
Fraser Coast Mayor Gerard O'Connell announced Mr Searle's appointment as chair on Wednesday after the council's fortnightly meeting.
He also announced councillors Trevor McDonald and Stuart Taylor had been appointed to the water and wastewater advisory committee.
The committee was formed to work with Wide Bay Water as the council tries to take back control of the corporation.
Cr O'Connell said the committee and the new board would meet as soon as possible.
"Council will continue to work with the board to minimise duplication and continue to supply the Fraser Coast with the best possible water and waste water services," he said.
As WBW's sole shareholder, the council determines each board appointment.
The council faced criticism from angry ratepayers at two public forums last week after the Chronicle revealed councillors had signed away to Cr O'Connell the power to hire and fire the Wide Bay Water board.
At a public forum held in Hervey Bay last Friday, Cr Loft said another attempt would be made to withdraw the delegation of power.
The deputy chair position remains unfilled.
