New MP backs $4.5m Burrum Heads boat ramp

THE future of the controversial Burrum Heads Boat Ramp is more certain with the new state member approving the plans.

Rumours about new Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders' stance on the ramp were swirling in Burrum Heads since early February.

However, after analysing the plans and talking with locals, Mr Saunders confirmed he supported the infrastructure, which has been talked about for about 20 years.

"I'm 100% behind it, I've had briefings and I've spoken with the mayor," he said.

"I think it's got huge potential to further the tourist trade for that area.

"I'm really satisfied - the office is right behind it."

Former Maryborough MP Anne Maddern backed the $4.5 million project and now Mr Saunders has followed suit, expecting the development to enhance the whole area.

He said the proposal needed to go before the Parliament to get the boat ramp removed from the Marine Park.

The first sitting date is March 24.
