New Roar recruit gets clearance for FFA Cup clash

BRISBANE Roar marquee man Massimo Maccarone has been cleared to play in the FFA Cup match against Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night.

The Roar had been sweating on the veteran Italian striker's visa clearance arriving ahead of the Perry Park clash.

However, relieved Roar coach John Aloisi confirmed that Maccarone's visa had been approved.

"He'll be involved (against the Victory), which is great news for him and another step in the right direction for him to get games under his belt," he said.

"He's still physically getting there.

"He needs to work and get that base, but it's a good opportunity for him to see what the A-League's all about against an opposition that are normally there or thereabouts at the end of the season."

Maccarone was able to play in a weekend friendly - despite his visa clearance not having arrived and scored twice in a 20-minute cameo in the Roar's 4-2 win over Brisbane Premier League club Peninsula Power.

While Maccarone will play on Wednesday night, former Victory star Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Greek international defender Avraam Papadopoulos are likely to miss the match due to fitness concerns.

Goalkeeper Michael Theo will also be sidelined, having been hit with the influenza A virus.
