Teen gets nine months jail

AN 18-YEAR-OLD already convicted of 26 burglary offences has been sentenced in the Hervey Bay District Court to nine months jail.

Kyle Benjamin James Gala pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted enter dwelling with intent and one of enter dwelling with intent by break.

The offences occurred in Torquay on October 18 of last year.

Gala, who has been in custody since October 19, had family members and friends supporting him when he faced court.

Defence barrister Steve Crofton said Gala, who police said appeared intoxicated at the time of the offences, had been addressing his alcohol problems in custody.

Judge Hugh Botting told Gala if he didn’t do something about his alcohol issues, his future would be “very bleak”.

He ordered that the jail time be cumulative to the time already served and set a parole eligibility date of April 19, 2010.
