No country music for this Tamworth pair

FRESH off the back of a six-month national tour promoting their second record City of Light, Blake Saban 3 is proving to be one of the hardest-working two-piece roots rock bands in Australia.

After clocking more than 30,000km and covering six states, the boys, invited to play at the 2013 Bluesfest in Byron Bay, wowed the audience with their energy-packed show.

Bringing their unique brand of Aussie roots and blues with rock guitar riffs driven by percussive grooves, these lads are sure to get your heart thumping if you head to the Bucca Hotel on Sunday.

Based in Tamworth, Blake Saban said the duo was getting up the noses of a few of the town's country music fans, but he was determined not to do what everyone else was doing.

"I guess we wanted to prove people wrong. I got sick of people saying you had to be into country music if you were in Tamworth," he said.

And it seems their sound has what it takes to make people stand up and take notice, with their single You Drive Me Crazy reaching number two on the Triple J Unearthed roots charts and 35 on the overall charts.

Spending a lot of time growing up on the eastern cost of Australia, Saban credits Jeff Lang and John Butler Trio among those whose music he draws on as they create their own sound.

"They're pretty cool artists," he said.

"Jeff Lang would definitely have had the most impact on our music; he led the way for Australian blues and roots."

The duo will look to emulate the success of their latest album, when they head back to the studio in July before hitting the road again.

"We'll probably head back to Adelaide in September," he said.

And with a possible stint overseas, international audiences may also get to hear Blake Saban 3.
