No easy solution for home owners

A VERY interesting photo of the runways at Maryborough Airport (FCC 6-1-10) and a great view of the hundreds of nearby homes too.

We live in one of them and were reminded of the recent threatened flight training school when we were advised that we could look forward to 75 flights a day seven days a week, with trainee pilots taking off, circling and landing at all hours.

We were assured that these planes were very quiet and no mention was made of the tonnes of filthy emissions to be dropped annually on our homes and gardens. All more risky I would have thought than a few cars driving along Saltwater Creek Road.

When we protested we were told that if we didn’t like these inconveniences we should “get out”.

There is a vast difference between a normally functioning airport and the disruption of hundreds of lives and we were thankful that that piece of nonsense did not eventuate.

Perhaps Mr Pope of Mungar could suggest in his wisdom how we could “get out” with little interference and negligible cost if something else of that magnitude threatens? – ANN CROTTY, Maryborough
