No timeline for public housing managed by not-for-profits

A REGIONAL plan to introduce public housing managed by the private sector on the Fraser Coast has not yet been given a timeline.

Under the State Government's 2020 Housing Vision, 90% of social housing would be managed by not-for-profit groups.

Maryborough MP Anne Maddern said the plan would also include a focus on supporting people back into the private rental market.

She said several factors, such as demand and stock of existing public housing, would need to be worked out before a timeline was created.

Of the 276 families on the public housing waiting list in Maryborough, 57 are high needs.

Being classed as high needs could mean a number of things, including being at risk of homelessness or escaping violence.
